| Doernbecher Children's Hospital is Oregon and SW Washington's premier children's hospital. It provides the widest range of health care services for children. As the pediatric arm of OHSU (Oregon Health & Science University), its staff conducts world-leading research into childhood illnesses and trains tomorrow's pediatricians. The support of the Kiwanis Doernbecher Children's Cancer Program (commonly referred to as KDCCP), through this event, the Greater Portland Golf Tournament, enables the Doernbecher staff to provide the most advanced therapies to children battling cancer. Doernbecher cares for more than 80% of all Oregon's young cancer patients and is the only provider of pediatric bone marrow/stem cell transplant in Oregon and SW Washington. Doernbecher is also one of only 21 institutions in the nation - and only one of six west of the Mississippi River - designated as a Phase 1 pediatric research hospital by the National Cancer Institute. This designation means that the children in our region, have access to the newest treatments before they are more widely available. Without Doernbecher, children would have to go to either Seattle or San Francisco for comparable care. |
